The Best Sofa Fabrics for Homes with Pets and Children

If you share your home with pets or young children, you know that sofas take a beating. Muddy paws, spilled juice, sticky fingers, and the occasional claw — your sofa needs to be beautiful and resilient. Here's how to choose a fabric that handles real life without sacrificing style.

What Makes a Fabric "Pet and Child Friendly"?

The key factors to consider are: weave tightness (tighter weaves resist snagging and pet claws better), pile height (lower pile is easier to clean), colour (mid-tones hide everyday dirt better than very light or very dark shades), and fibre composition (synthetic blends tend to be more stain-resistant than natural fibres).

Naple: The Practical Choice

Our Naple fabric is a smooth, tightly woven textile that performs exceptionally well in busy households. Its flat, structured surface means pet hair doesn't embed deeply — a quick vacuum or lint roller removes it easily. Spills bead on the surface rather than soaking in immediately, giving you time to blot them away.

For homes with dogs or cats, Naple in mid-tones like Mink, Beige, or Sand is our most recommended choice. These colours are forgiving of everyday dirt while still looking elegant.

Best Naple colours for pet owners: Mink, Beige, Sand, Seal Grey. These mid-tones hide everyday marks while remaining easy to spot-clean.

Marble Boucle: Beautiful but Needs Care

Marble is our textured boucle fabric — it has a distinctive looped texture that adds incredible depth and character to a room. However, that texture does mean pet claws can occasionally catch on the loops. It's not a dealbreaker, but it does require a little more care.

If you love the boucle look but have a dog that jumps on the sofa, consider placing a throw over the areas your pet uses most. This protects the fabric while still allowing you to enjoy the full aesthetic when guests visit.

Teddy: Irresistibly Soft, Surprisingly Resilient

Teddy is our highest-pile boucle fabric — incredibly soft and tactile, and a firm favourite with families. Contrary to what you might expect, Teddy actually performs well in family homes. The high pile disguises minor marks and everyday wear, and the fabric has a natural resilience that means it bounces back after use.

Pet hair does embed more deeply in Teddy than in Naple, so regular vacuuming (with a soft brush attachment) is recommended. For young children, Teddy in Ivory, Latte, or Dove gives you a warm, inviting sofa that hides the inevitable sticky-finger moments.
